So what can you do to ensure that your health goals are still on track in six months’ time?

We asked our health and fitness experts to give us some tips for achieving your healthy New Year’s resolutions:
Make sure the health goals you set are realistic and attainable
It is demotivating to set a goal that you have no chance of achieving. If your original resolution is proving too difficult it might be worth thinking again. It helps to focus on a single resolution and break it down into a series of steps or smaller goals. You get a sense of achievement when you can regularly tick off these smaller steps on your way to your ultimate goal.
In order to set achievable goals you need to know where you are starting from. At Patshull Park we offer a free fitness assessment to our members. It gives an analysis of body fat percentage, blood pressure, weight, resting heart rate, grip-strength and lung capacity. You can then use this data to monitor how you are progressing towards your health goals.
Track your progress
It is important to track your progress as you go along. It is motivating to see how far you have come since you started working towards your goal. You can do this in a variety of ways such as writing in a diary or journal, recording on a spreadsheet, or even by starting your own blog!

Planning is key to successfully achieving your health goals. Try to anticipate what might stop you achieving your resolution and put plans in place to avoid this happening. For example, if you are trying to lose weight and know that you are too tired to cook something healthy after work, perhaps you could plan to make batches of healthy meals at the weekend? Say no to guilt and keep going
If you do slip up don’t waste your energy feeling guilty and don’t give up. Nobody is perfect. Don’t let one blip stop you from achieving your goal. Consistency is the key. Healthy habits are formed over time.

One of the best ways to help you commit to your health goals is to tell other people about what you are trying achieve. Making yourself accountable to other people and declaring your goals publically can really help you to stick to them.
