We’ve been getting a lot of great feedback from people who have visited us to do some winter fishing in our waters for pike, carp, trout and course fish. In fact, a number of them have made vlogs and online comments to document their catches:

Black Country Piker

Today was the first time I have ever fished over at Patshull Park. I have heard many things over the years but today confirmed only good things about this venue. Lovely staff, beautiful surroundings and pike a plenty, just not for me today. There are pictures of recent catches ranging from 15lb through to good 20s. It does seem however the best tactics are live/dead baits. I will most definitely be back and most likely on a boat!

I had heard of Patshull Park for many years but had never ventured over to fish it. After reading a few articles and seeing pictures of Pike up to 32lbs, my curiosity got the better of me.

On the 17th of October I made my first visit and I have since been back three times without blanking (touch wood). The first thing that struck me was the enormity of the Great Lake and its tranquil surroundings. It truly is a beautifully quiet venue that is sat in the countryside full of nature and steeped in history. A perfect place to blow away the cobwebs, relax and hopefully catching a fish of a lifetime whilst being there.

There’s a great little fishing hut by the bay stuffed full of tackle if you need anything and the ability to hire a boat (this I need to do!). You can even get live bait if that’s your preferred method of Piking.

Each time I have been I have tried numerous lures however the one single lure that has worked for me so far is my trusty Jig-Fly. My favourite choice is a 7 or 8g Jig, this is then mounted with either a Roach Flash Tail and a rattle mounted on the hook for that added attraction or Perch pattern of the same size.

Apart from my first Pike caught from the match pool all other fish have come from the vegetation lines near the bank in 3-5ft of water. The amount of missed hits plus the fish I caught from the bank alone in and around the bay I can only imagine how many Pike there are throughout the Lake. Without doubt there must be a good number of high twenties lurking around in the depths, maybe even a few thirties.

I will soon return with bigger Jig-Fly lures, take a boat out to explore the rest of the Great Lake along with a live bait or two.
